About Hyderabad

The city of Hyderabad, comprising the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, is located at 17o North and 78o East. It has an average altitude of 536 meters above MSL. The annual range of temperature in the city is 10 degrees to 44 degrees centigrade. The average annual rainfall of the city is 85 cms. The population of Hyderabad is 68,09,970 in 2011 and the area is 1865 sq.km. It is well connected to the rest of India by road, rail and air.

About Osmania University

Osmania University, established in 1918, is the seventh oldest in India, the third oldest in South India and the first to be established in the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad. With a sprawling campus of nearly 1600 acres and buildings of majestic beauty and architectural splendor, Osmania University, is perhaps, the largest higher education system in India. It is a home to nearly 300,000 students pursuing their higher studies in its Campus, Constituent, Affiliated Colleges and District Centres. Its faculty and staff number nearly 5000. Osmania University is home to 5000 international students from over 80 countries.

About the Department

The Department of Geography is one of the oldest and also the largest in South India. It was established in 1942. It offers M.Sc. Geography, M.Sc. Geoinfromatics, Post- Graduate Diploma in Geographical Cartography, M. Phil. and Ph.D. programs. The Department had assistance from UGC (SAP and ASIST) and DST (FIST Phase I and II). The Department has been conferred with the status of Centre for Advanced Study (CAS). Its thrust areas are Urban Geography, Regional Development and Geoinformatics. Academic programs and publications have been undertaken by institutions in India and abroad, particularly in the field of urban geography and Geoinformatics.
